The Visitation of His Grace, The Archbishop of West Africa This year the Patronal Festival of S. Clement was very special indeed with The Most Rev'd Robert G.A. Okine and his wife Julianna. First of all, before I go into any of the details of his visit, I must express my extreme gratitude to Dr Joseph Chapman, our Parish Finance Committee Chairman who worked so hard on plans for the social activities of the Archbishop and his wife and their accommodations at the Hilton Garden Inn. And there was the "taxi" service he provided for them. He must have put many miles on his auto. Thank you sincerely to Dr John Lilley for the wonderful and beautiful liturgical arrangements and floral displays he created. Also, the wonderful liturgy was due primarily to the efforts of Larry Reilly and his Gentlemen of the Servers' Guild. The Pontifical Mass was carried out to perfection under Larry's direction both on the Feast day and the Sunday Next before Advent. My sincere thanks to all of the Servers who assisted Larry in this tremendous endeavour. The Organists, Choir and Orchestra gave glory to God in their excellent rendition of the Haydn "Mariazeller' Mass setting and their motets. A wonderful reception in the Parish Hall sponsored by the Vestry and many friends who pitched in to help where needed followed the liturgy. The Archbishop came bearing gifts, one of which was a carved wooden plaque from his Diocese to S. Clement's which hopefully will be hung by his photograph in the Parish Hall for all to enjoy. He presented the Bishop of Pennsylvania with a beautiful hand-made stole and tablecloth with matching napkins. The Bishop in return presented the Archbishop with a red Prayer Book inscribed by him to His Grace. His Grace has an on-going campaign to raise funds for the Archdiocese of Koforidua, for the completion of the Diocesan Bishop's residence, for hospitals, schools and other necessities which we take for granted here. All of us are asked to assist in this project. Arrangements for making contributions may will be handled through the Parish Office. His Grace was blessed with an anonymous gift from a parishioner for $2,000; by a gift from the Parish of $10,000 from Mission Giving for 2002, which was presented to him at the reception, and another $1,000 was given to him from the Servers' Guild. We continue to consider it a privilege to have renewed this personal relationship with the Archbishop and his Diocese. -Fr Offerle The Feast of S.
