X. Jesus Is Stripped of His Garments
Previous Home Next

V. We adore thee, O Christ, and we bless thee.
R. Because by thy Holy Cross thou hast redeemed the world.

THEN the soldiers took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout. They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the Scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.

V. They parted my garments among them.
R. And cast lots upon my vesture.

Let us pray.

PUT off from us, O Lord, the old man and his deeds: and put on us the new man, which is created in righteousness and true holiness. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

HYMN
Take beneath the Cross my station
Share with thee thy desolation
Humbly this I ask of thee.
