XI. Jesus Is Nailed to the Cross
Previous Home Next

V. We adore thee, O Christ, and we bless thee.
R. Because by thy Holy Cross thou hast redeemed the world.

AND there were also two others, malefactors, led with him to be put to death. And when they were come to the place which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left. Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them: for they know not what they do. And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God. And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar, and saying, if thou be the King of the Jews, save thyself. And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

V. They pierced my hands and my feet.
R. I may tell all my bones.

Let us pray.

O LORD Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, who, for the redemption of the world, didst ascend the Altar of the Cross, and shed thy precious blood for the forgiveness of our sins: we humble beseech thee, that after our death we may joyfully enter the gates of paradise. Who livest and reignest world without end. Amen.

HYMN
Virgin, virgins all excelling
Spurn me not, my prayer repelling
Make me weep and mourn with thee.
